AU-gust in September #27: Younger/De-Aged (Romance The Backrooms)
Posting this a day late, oops!
So, here’s the deal. I couldn’t participate in my beloved AU-gust event last month, because I was busy. So I thought, fuck it, I’ll just participate this month instead, because we as humans can do whatever we want, and screw the rules lmao! And that’s what I’m doing.
The event is “supposed” to be for fanfiction, but I want to write AUs for my game Romance The Backrooms, a liminal space otome with 5 main love interests, so I’m gonna do that instead. Like I said, screw the rules! X)

Characters: Adiel, Glarence
Other Info: The idea of this AU is that Adiel appears in the backroom as a child, and grows into young adulthood before he stops aging. He’s also carrying a lot of emotions and not really processing most of them. Some stuff might be canon? The story is narrated by Adiel, and he’s speaking to Glarence.

“I was so young when I appeared in the backrooms,” Adiel said. “So small, so vulnerable. It’s a miracle I survived, really. The odds were against me, but I tried to use my size to my advantage, be nimble & quick, squirm my way out of danger. Somehow, I was able to grow up. But it wasn’t easy.”
He sighed. “I think the worst part of growing up in this place was the humans I met over the years. Not because they were all bad people or because I hate humans—you know quite the opposite. But whenever I meet I human, I can’t help but feel . . . sad, at first. Because the odds are against them, too. They’re probably going to die.
“But I try to save them,” Adiel continued, clenching his fists. “And some, I did save. But most of them died horrible, painful deaths, usually going insane on the way to their graves.
“While they had their sanity, they’d usually ask me to remember them. ‘Don’t forget me, ok?’ I heard that so much. And it hurt, because I never forget anything. Their lives were an awful blip in my timeline, one I’d rather forget. But I still remember every single life I tried to save.”

I am historically quite bad at longfic. But for the one person who requested this: we're giving it a go! Expansion of this
Ghostxfem reader. No warnings this chapter.
PROLOGUE:
Ella the Enchantress had nails like ambergris and a cunt like a steel trap, with a personality to match.
Feared for her tempestuous nature and reviled for a demonstrable lack of empathy, enlisting the assistance of this witch-cum-altruist was an exercise in self-flagellation.
Ella enjoyed attention.
Her preferences varied with the weather, but speculation had it that her skills as a seductress far outstripped her talent with magic. A modern medusa, the wrong look could chain a petitioner to her, life and limb, for as long as she so pleased.
The right look was frequently difficult to come by - Ella wasn't always naked, but she was never far away.
Not that they'd regret looking, necessarily. She was certainly skilled. But she left marks, had a way of destroying livelihoods and relationships.
Her real name was Sally, and she was technically a sorceress.
A relationship with her would be akin to juggling a live grenade, and that would be stupid.
Ghost isn't stupid.
He just likes living on the edge. And sex.
For all her failings as a member of civilized society, Ella was hot. The aforementioned cunt didn't hurt, either.
Bit of a vindictive bitch, though.

Ghost is brave for a man with all his softest bits hanging out.
Then again, the soft bits were always her favorite part of him - it certainly wasn't his personality or emotional fluency.

Sally storms through the apartment in a manner more literal than metaphorical, fuming with hot embarassment and anger, as she stomps her legs into the suggestion of a dress she was wearing when she'd seduced him.
Ghost doesn't notice. He's already dismissed her, rolled back over to her side of the bed and buried his face in the pillow instead of her lap.
That rat bastard. How dare he!
She's Sally Le Fucking Fay, great-great-great-great-great...great step-granddaughter of Morgen le Fay, and she cannot believe she made the mistake of handing her self-worth to a man.
No - that she can believe.
What she can't believe is that Ghost of all people would so callously reject her charm. He was an unlovable bastard, with no family and no prospects, and she had lowered herself to take him into her willing bosom.
And he had still turned her away.
She seethes the whole way home, ignoring the way her anger makes her magic flare around her. The scum of the night scramble out of her way, keen to avoid a gale that rips lids from trash cans and sends them careening into the nearest stationary object.
Sally has care to spare for one thing and one thing only. Usually it's herself. But tonight, it's going to be retribution.
Big hard man. Ha.
She'll show him.
Ghost peeks out from under his arm when he finally feels the front door shake the foundation - he's not entirely convinced she won't come back, and he's not as fearless as he'd like to pretend.
His room is a mess. Even more-so than after a normal night of athletics. Ella had imposed herself upon him for a week, and he'd tried every trick in the book to get her to leave.
He'd even turned down sex. Twice.
He'd seen it on the horizon, but he'd really thought the sorceress would take it better. It was part of the agreement - no feelings, blah blah blah, not ready for anything else.
She didn't want a man to cramp her witchy vibes, and he didn't want someone asking more of him than he was ready to give.
And then she'd decided they were "the perfect match" and they were "fated for each other", like characters in some cutesy Disney tale, and not who they really were -
A morally grey sorceress with reality debt, and an emotionally constipated weapon of destruction.
He'd had to pull out the big guns: alas, "it's over" didn't go over too well.
She'd nearly destroyed his room - it had rained, and if she wasn't so mad he'd have been worried about her flooding the basement. As it was, she'd steamed him like a shellfish.
He slips out of bed and sneaks over to the door, an intruder in his own home, afraid to summon her by accident. He'd kill for a good night's sleep, without hands crawling down his pants, but the climate in his room is unbearable.
The couch is good enough.
If he makes it through the week without hellfire raining down on him - literally - he's going to take a break from women.
He should have listened to Soap.

How to Achieve Bowel Freedom (Part 3)
Eating without exercising is not enough! Here are four static exercises that can promote bowel movements.
Exercise 1: Lie on your back, bend your knees, hug your legs, lift your head up, touch your nose to your knees, and hold for one minute.
Exercise 2: Stand with your legs and hips the same width apart. Your thighs should be at a 90-degree angle, and your hands pressed firmly on both sides of your body. Use your buttocks to drive your hips upward and hold for 30 seconds.
Exercise 3: Lie on your back, spread your arms to the sides, bend your knees, and tilt them towards the left side. Place your left hand on your right knee, turn your head to the right, and hold for 30 seconds. Repeat on the other side.
Exercise 4: Overlap your insteps and sit on your heels, holding for 30 seconds.
With a healthy diet and proper exercise, keep your bowels moving and young, and let's achieve bowel freedom together!

This would not override any wounds, illnesses, or chronic issues (though it might help alleviate them depending on what they are).
Eating and drinking: you would never be hungry or thirsty, and you would always have the required amount and type of calories, vitamins, and minerals.
Pooping, etc: you would never feel the urge to use the restroom, and would never have to deal with constipation, diarrhea, gassiness, or other issues that could be caused by your diet.
Sleeping: you would never be drowsy or sleepy, and you could stay awake all the time.
Stretching/light exercise: your muscles would always be in good shape and you would never be sore or tense.
Breathing/blinking: you would never run out of breath, and could be in places with poor air quality or no air without suffering ill effects, and your eyes would never get dry or itchy.

I don't post a whole lot about o/zempic or w/egovy in depth because it's a (somewhat) triggering topic for me. my dad is a lobbyist for n/ovo n/ordisk and he has continued to try to get me to take his drug because I have a "disease" that needs to be "treated." we've gotten into countless fights over it. I'm not in a place where I have the emotional energy to post about it, but here are some podcasts on the subject I have listened to and trust:
but yes, in short: it doesn't work, not for weight loss at least. it's prescribed with a diet and exercise (when their marketing relies on the fact that diets don't work. funny.) it doesn't make fat people thin, but it does make you lose a small percentage of your body weight (about 5 percent) because it's an appetite supressant. supposedly you would have to be on the drug for the rest of your life to keep that 5% off, and it's only been tested for a few years so we really have no clue of the long-term effects, and capitalism loves dependance! the side effects are horrible and are often too unbearable for folks to continue the drug. complete loss of interest and joy in eating, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, constipation, stomach pain, headache, dizziness, fatigue, even gallbladder and pancreas problems, gastroparesis, and blocked intestines. and there could be a risk of thyroid cancer.

You Are Probably Magnesium Deficient
About a year ago, I started supplementing magnesium. It's been literally life changing. I've been working on a lot of issues with my health – asthma, migraines, fibromyalgia – but if I could only keep one fix I think it would be this one.
(I'm glad I don't have to actually pick. You can pry my migraine medications out of my cold, dead hands.)
I had previously tried supplementing magnesium as a migraine treatment. My doctor suggested I try Preventa, which contains 60mg magnesium. I took it for several months and didn't notice any improvement, so I discontinued it.
A year ago, my brother reported that he'd been supplementing magnesium and it had improved several issues that I also had. I give my family's health recommendations a lot of extra weight because they're very smart and because I figure their bodies are closer to mine so things that work for them are more likely to work for me. I asked him exactly what he was doing – taking 500mg every day for at least a few weeks – and copied it exactly.
Nothing happened for about a week and a half. Then, I woke up and discovered that my muscles were capable of relaxing. Exercise became pleasant. I stopped clenching my jaw. My blood pressure monitor stopped warning me that it had detected an arrhythmia that my doctors could never seem to find.
So here's what I've learned since:
Electrolytes include calcium, sodium, potassium, and magnesium. There are others. I don’t care about them right now. Your body uses calcium, sodium, and potassium to tense your muscles and magnesium to relax them.
You want 186-2300mg sodium per day. The average American gets about 3300mg. Side effects of insufficient sodium include nausea, headache, fatigue, seizures, muscle spasms, and coma. Side effects of too much sodium include muscle weakness, thirst, irritability, lethargy, and seizures. Table salt is a good source of sodium, containing 2400mg per teaspoon.
You want about 1000mg calcium per day. The average American gets about 1029mg. Side effects of insufficient calcium include osteoporosis, kidney stones, hypertension, stroke, and insulin resistance. Excess calcium is mostly dealt with by the kidneys (pages 2-4). Milk is a good source of calcium, containing 240mg per 400mL.
You want about 3000mg potassium per day. The average American gets about 2668mg. Your kidneys will mostly deal with excess potassium, but if they fail side effects include numbness, tingling, nausea, trouble breathing, chest pain, and heart palpitations. Side effects of insufficient potassium include constipation, fatigue, heart palpitations, muscle spasms, tingling, muscle cramps, low blood pressure, and thirst. I’m not totally sure about good sources of potassium? Like the best source on this list is dried apricots but you would need to eat like 2 cups of them to get enough potassium and that sounds like so many apricots. Bananas are pretty mediocre sources of potassium with 422mg per. Potassium supplements only provide about 99mg, or 3% of your recommended daily intake. Still, we seem to be getting pretty close somehow? Like add in that banana and you’re golden. I dunno. Moving on.
You want about 400mg magnesium per day. The average American gets “only approximately 50% of that.” Side effects of insufficient magnesium include hypertension, arrhythmias, heart disease, and diabetes (pages 5-6). Side effects of too much magnesium include diarrhea – which gets framed as a positive (“reduces constipation”) as often as not and is presumably not severe – and that’s about it unless you have kidney problems. Peanut butter and black beans are frequently recommended sources of magnesium, containing 49mg per 2Tbsp and 60mg per half cup, respectively.
To put it another way, you would need to eat about 16Tbsp of peanut butter a day to get enough magnesium. That's a lot of peanut butter.
Your drinking water can provide up to 30% of your magnesium intake – and, historically, often has. When tap water has a lot of minerals, we call it “hard water.” We don’t generally like hard water, so we soften it, which takes out the magnesium (and calcium).
You're probably magnesium deficient.
If you want to repair this deficiency, you will probably need to supplement steadily for a few weeks before you notice a difference. I recommend magnesium citrate, which dissolves in water and has a pretty subtle taste. Not that you have to dissolve it in water. I've mixed it in smoothies and taken it in capsules and added it to my water bottle – whatever is most convenient for the day I have planned. It all works fine.

not to do serious analysis about this but the thing about brian is that on a fundamental level hes a traumatized teenage boy whos propped his entire identity up on keeping himself intact & functional by trying to live up to Masculine Ideals. like, he tries to live up to the "good" masculine ideal of protecting women being considerate being strong being a provider etc, but this all stems from the fundamental trauma of being taught that the only way Not to be abused/hurt is to Be A Man. so his default mode is to be subtly misogynist in how he thinks about the undersider girls while harming himself via his own emotional constipation. and because he has no healthy outlets when he gets upset or angry we see scenes like the one where he self-admittedly acts like his own abusers towards rachel bc he doesnt know how else to handle her, or where hes self-harming via exercising until his knuckles are bleeding. like this is the fundamental sauce of his whole personality. hes incapable of being really chill and understanding about non-normative shit like polyamory or gay people. hes not a Hateful person, so hes just, like, awkward/stilted around these sort of things while still trying to be a decent person. but its just so funny for anyone to envision him as being the undersiders Helpful Woke Expert Explainer because like. Thats so counter to everything about brian man. So so counter. it's like, if you were trying to complete a challenge to make your worm fanfiction as out of character as possible, you would give brian the role of Woke Explainer like that
